Wood Time handcrafted wood clocks
Clock Specifications
Clock Construction
Each wall clock is handcrafted from various woods including wood gears and pendulum. Traditional woods include oak, cherry, maple, mahogany and walnut, exotic woods are also used. Other materials include metal axels, nylon bearings, and metal weights and chains.

Woods for the clocks are chosen based on artistic choice, with consideration given to the specific needs of the individual components. For instance, shafts on the clocks are made of fine grain woods as course grained woods would split when cut to the fine detail required. The large wood gears are made from Baltic birch veneered plywood for strength and stability, particularly in humid climates.

Time Movement
The time movement is a mechanical weight driven movement similar to that of a Grandfather clock. The weights turn the gears while the lever and escapement keep the gears from freely rotating. The pendulum regulates the escapement. For a more in depth explanation of time movement, check out the pendulum clock page at www.howstuffworks.com/clock.htm.

The clocks are wound by pulling the chain bob so that the weight is at the top of its travel. The pendulum length may need to be adjusted slightly as the clock acclimates to its new environment. When the pendulum length has been properly adjusted the clocks are accurate to within seconds.

Mounting & Display
Both The Inaugural and Slice of Time are wall clocks. A mounting bracket is supplied which is attached to the wall with screws.
